Thoughts: I am officially in the 3rd Trimester! The second trimester went so much faster than the first. I can’t believe I am 2/3rds of the way through my pregnancy. Starting now I go to the doctor every two weeks, opposed to four! That seems crazy! At 36 weeks I will go every week. It’s weird because this whole pregnancy has dragged on but lately I am realizing we will be bringing this precious little girl home sooner than we can imagine!
Dr. Appointments: I had an ultrasound on November 15th to check my placenta previa. Thankfully it has completely corrected itself and I wont be needing a c-section. This is such wonderful news. Our ultrasound tech was a doll and checked to make sure Baby Red is still a girl! She also switched it to 3D to get some pictures of her face. She is really low and had her hands in her face so it was hard to get a good view but the whole thing was amazing. She even showed us that she already has hair on her head! She is already in the “birthing postion” but at this point that could change several times before it’s go time.
Baby: At 28 weeks gestation Baby Red is almost 15 inches long and weighs about 2lbs 4oz. Her brain has developed a lot in the last few weeks and her sleep schedule is a lot more regular. She looks like a much skinnier version of what she will look like at birth. In the weeks to come she will triple her size. At 28 weeks gestation she has a 90% chance of survival if born now. While those chances are good, its in her best interest to get chubbier and cuter insider her current home ;)
Weight: I gained 4 lbs this month so that means I am at a total of 7 lbs gained.
Symptoms: I have been feeling pretty good the past few weeks. I ran out of my gummy prenatal vitamins last week and learned the hard way that the pill form still makes me throw up! We bought more gummy ones and all is well. I have not been sleeping well at all. I miss sleeping on my stomach so much! I am considering getting a prenatal massage for the mere fact that they have those special tables with the hole for your stomach! I get up every 60-90 minutes to use the restroom and then I fight to get comfortable and fall back to sleep. My lower back pain seems to be here to stay. Small price to pay for our little girl though! I realized I should also share the good symptom I have been experiencing. My skin has never been clearer! I seriously have not had a single blemish in months. So thank you for that baby girl!
Movement: She is very active! We are getting into a rhythm now. I can tell when she is sleeping and when she is awake she moves like crazy. I love sitting there with my hand on my stomach feeling her move. Her movements are much stronger now. A few nights ago I was laying on my side with my hand under my stomach when I felt the heel of her foot push out REALLY far. It actually freaked me out a little bit. It felt like she was trying to escape! I love that constant reminder that there is a little person growing inside me.
Cravings/Aversions/Eating: Still mostly milk and peanut butter and jelly sandwiches. I have so many friends who have craved some nasty sounding food combinations so I am grateful to have not had any of those so far. I did eat way too much Halloween candy one night and severely regretted it later. I have a feeling being in my third trimester over the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays is going to make it hard to not gain a ton of weight. I am trying hard to eat healthy, small meals frequently. During the last couple of weeks as I get ready for bed I consciously ask myself if I am hungry. I never am. Within 30 minutes of lying down my stomach is growling so loud you would think I hadn’t eaten at all the whole day! I tried to ignore the feeling once and got really sick so I eat when I am that hungry.
Sleep: I already touched on this in “symptoms”. Sleep is a thing of the past, but luckily I can sleep in as late as I need to so that makes up for the frequent bathroom trips and tossing and turning. I am sure it’s just my body’s way of preparing me for motherhood. I will be honest, by the tenth bathroom trip I am pretty ornery. I have a feeling that the reason I get up so much is because she is so low. It’s weird because I can feel the top of my uterus up closer to my ribs but she just likes to hang out in between my hips. Silly girl.
Workouts: We pumped up my yoga ball and I have been using that a lot for squats. I also sit on it and rotate my hips in circles and figure 8’s. This has been the only thing to help my hip and lower back pain. Apparently it’s good to strengthen the pelvic floor (inturn helping with labor) as well. We aren’t going on as many walks. Ever since getting over the flu it’s been pretty cold and gets dark at 5 (thank your daylight savings….) so we haven’t had much opportunity. Our complex has a “gym” that I tried to use, unfortunately everything is out of order so that is disappointing.
Random: We decided to take advantage of one particularly beautiful Saturday afternoon and took some maternity pictures. We used a tripod and took them ourselves but I think they turned out pretty well. We also went on a hospital tour that day. The hospital was much nicer than I imagined. I feel very comfortable having our baby born there! Since I don’t have to have a c-section I can use their water birth room! I am so excited about this prospect. They have a level 3 NICU and are completely prepared should anything bad happen. We feel very confident that our little girl will be born healthy and strong though. Here are some of the maternity photos if you didn’t see them on facebook!
